ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is a learning experience and exists to teach the viewer something new through captivating art. I value the meaning or lesson behind every piece, and I want to convey my own messages or ideas through my art. When I navigate a museum, my favorite part is reading the descriptions and details about it, such as how and where it was made. However, the most important question is why the artist created that piece. Half of what I consider when creating my art is what I can say about what I am working on.
My love for linguistics, foreign culture, and humanities have brought me to try and be a campaigner for curiosity for the scope of human behavior. I begin a piece by learning something new, or tapping into a curiosity of mine, and conceiving a way to answer my own questions for those who may have the same ones. I know a piece is done when I can imagine myself proudly standing in front of it and illustrating my reasoning for it and eliciting questions. When my work is going well, I am filled with a sense of excitement to share, because I believe differences should be celebrated, and everyone should be proud to be different, and willing to learn. When people see my work, I hope they will feel excited and like they have learned something new.
